Non-Newtonian Fluid - GOO!

Today I taught a lesson about the properties of solids, liquids, and gasses.  I also told them about something in between called non-Newtonian fluids.  Basically a solid with liquid properties.  Cornstarch and water.

Learn about it with Steve Spangler Science on Ellen here.

Also see a connection with The Big Bang Theory

Sorry if it is messy but it is so fun to try at home.  Perfect goo for Halloween!

Diffusion

Today the grade 8s learnt about diffusion and osmosis and we did a little demo to show how particles diffuse differently in hot and cold water.  COOL!!

A variation of this you can try at home is http://www.reachoutmichigan.org/funexperiments/quick/eric/diffusion.html
